DePauw’s Must-do List Before You Leave Campus

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at DePauw chapter.
Going off campus next fall, or maybe just sad to leave for the summer? Here are 10 things you must do in or around Greencastle, courtesy of yours truly. Try them out when you find yourself bored or wanting an adventure! You are welcome.

1. Boulder Run

This is self-explanatory. If you’re planning on being off campus for a semester, do a boulder run before you go. It’s scary, exhilarating and gives you a great story for your kids.

2. Marvin’s

With all the work and no time to do it, order a Marvin’s pizza to accompany you on those long work nights. Use up the last of your Marvin’s money with an extra order of mac bites and share with your friends (or let’s be real one friend, maybe)! You wouldn’t believe how much you miss the convenience of Marvin’s late night greasy food until you don’t have it anymore.

3. Walk in the nature park

With the weather warming up, walking in the nature park is a great way to get some cardio in and also that much needed vitamin D. Relax and enjoy the peace and quiet of the park or the Reflection Center.

4. Dairy Castle

Everyone should have that last Brownie Fudge Surprise before you head home to mediocre ice cream. Plus, half the school will probably be there too so it would be a great time to have that last get together before you head off. Go ahead and treat yourself to a job well done on finishing the school year!

5. See a movie at Ashley Cinema

Who doesn’t love free movies? Take a study break by seeing a movie with some friends, and treat yourself to some popcorn while you’re at it (movie theater popcorn is the best type of popcorn). Ashley Cinema gets the newest movies, so take the opportunity to save $15 and see that movie you’ve been waiting to see!

6. Duck Patio

The Duck recently opened their new patio, which is clean, airy and beautiful. Definitely take advantage of the great space and amazing weather (when it happens) to grab dinner or even just drinks for those of you who are legal. It has been really popular lately, so try to get there early to get a good table outside.

7. Edna Collins Ghost Bridge

The legendary haunted bridge is something you can’t pass up. Do you believe in the tale? There’s only one way to find out. Grab a few of your closest friends and pile in the car for a night of fright. *Warning- your heart will feel like it’s jumping out of your chest, there will be screaming and maybe even a few tears.

8. Cataract Falls

This place is a few minutes outside of Greencastle but it’s worth the drive (and the gas) to get there. Go for a picnic, walk the trails or just sit on top of the second waterfall. It’s a great place to catch some sun and shoot the breeze.

9. Fairways

Who doesn’t want to have that last brunch with the friend group before leaving? Between the fluffy pancakes and the homey feel of Fairways, what’s not to like at this popular breakfast spot? Plus, it is a known fact that breakfast is the most important meal of the day.

10. One athletic home game

If you can, take 30 minutes to go to a home athletic game. You’d be surprised how much school spirit you actually have when you want your team to win. You don’t even need to know what’s happening, just know when to cheer for a winning move (other people from your university will be shouting, take the hint from them). Fans make a huge difference to the players, so put on a university T-shirt and head to the ball game!
