Only one more week to go before summer gets here and everyone leaves UW-La Crosse! This means summer is here! For some, the thought of summer is really exciting and they can’t wait to get on the beach and spend time with their friends, but for others, like myself, summer means working non-stop. The thought of summer is exciting but at the same time I know I’m really going to miss it here at UWL. No matter what you may have going on this summer or what you don’t have going on this summer, make sure you make the most of it. Work a lot, but make sure you make time for your friends, family, and make some time for yourself. Have a great summer UWL!

1. Go on a Road Trip

It is important to work a lot and make some money. After all, most of us are poor college students, but don’t forget to take some time off and go on a trip. Once college is over with, you might not be able to travel as much as you want to. With that being said, take advantage of the time you have now and travel. Take some of your close friends and road trip to Florida or simply road trip around the Midwest.

2. Work

Make some money! You may not enjoy going into work everyday, but you will not have any regrets when you see the money in your bank. Try to find something you’ll enjoy. For example, nannying for a family, working at a baseball stadium or working as a camp counselor at a camp.

3. Go to the beach

Summer in the Midwest doesn’t last long, so take advantage of the beautiful, hot weather while you can.

4. Visit someone you haven’t seen in a while

Now that you have some time off and don’t have college classes to keep up with, take the time to visit someone you haven’t seen in a long time. Whether it be an old childhood friend or a family member in another state, you will not regret taking the time out of your summer to go visit them.

5. Go camping

Take a weekend, grab some friends and put away your phones. Our generation has gotten so obsessed with social media and we constantly find ourselves on our phones. Take the weekend to enjoy nature and campfires while putting your phone away.

6. Go canoeing/kayaking

Find as many excuses as you can to spend some time outside. Sometimes it’s just too easy to be lazy and stay inside the house on some summer days. Canoeing or kayaking are two things you can do to spend some time outside and soak in that vitamin D.

7.  Learn something new

As much as I love summer time, I can’t help but get a little bored as we come to the end of it. Keep it exciting by trying something you’ve never done before. Whether it be learning how to water ski or playing Frisbee Golf for the first time, make sure you go out and do those things!
