HCX’s Guide to Making the Most of Summer

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Exeter chapter.

Soon we will have all finished exams and will be wondering what to do with ourselves without the ties of revision. HCX has put together a few easy steps to relax, embrace summer and make it memorable!

Be Spontaneous

English weather is not exactly reliable so why not be spontaneous and make up your plans as you go along. This can be anything from catching a train to somewhere you have never been, to trying a new restaurant, or (if you have a few spare pennies) even booking a last minute plane ticket to somewhere hot and sunny! Making plans last minute can be a great way to see where the day takes you. For the cash-concious, if it is a nice day then why not find a patch of countryside in the local area and go exploring.

Exeter tip: Dartmoor is right on our doorstep!

Fill Every Day

Once you enter the real world and working life, the endless days of summer holidays in between terms will be over. Make the most of it by squeezing in as much activities as possible. Remember that everyone needs a lazy sofa day every once in a while, but take the time to catch up with old friends and chat away the hours over that cake that took you the whole day to bake.

Set an Alarm

It can be nice to have a lie in once in a while, but keeping a routine can actually make you more energised and will prevent those early lectures being near impossible to drag yourself out of bed for when you return in September. Or for final years, it will make getting up to go to work much easier. However, do not set your alarm too early, it is summer after all.

Try Something New

Set yourself a goal this summer, it will make you work towards something and give you a sense of achievement when you reflect on the summer in the Autumn. You could learn to surf or become a yoga pro, the possibilities are endless.

Go and Explore

You can thank University for giving you a network of friends that live all over England (and maybe even the world). Take the time to go and visit them and explore their home cities, there are some truly beautiful places and this will help you to stay in contact over the summer.

So, there you have it, HCX’s top tips to embracing summer. We will be keeping our fingers crossed in the hope that we might get some good weather but whatever happens, remember to carpé diem!
