4 Places to Go to Bust Boredom This Summer

Summer is (nearly) upon us! Whether you’ve got an internship, a job, a summer class, or a three-month long plan to lounge around in the sun, now is the time to enjoy the weather and have some fun! Need some ideas for summer weekends? No worries! Here are a few fun places to explore.

1. Renwick Gallery

This gallery has an extensive collection of “contemporary craft and decorative art,” and is a great place to visit during a day trip to D.C. Renwick Gallery is part of the Smithsonian American Art Museum. It is open daily from 10 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. and admission is free!

2. Music festivals

Firefly is coming up June 16-19, with headliners Two Door Cinema Club, Kings of Leon, Florence & The Machine, Deadmau5 and Mumford & Sons. The festival, taking place in Dover, Delaware, will have tons of attractions including food, Dogfish Head craft beer, a headphones dance-party (otherwise known as The Thicket), and much more.

Can’t wait until then and want to go a bit further away? Bonnaroo is the weekend before Firefly, June 9-12, in Manchester, Tennessee. With names like J. Cole, Ellie Goulding, Bryson Tiller, and Halsey, this festival is sure to be a good time!

If those don’t quench your music thirst, Moonrise is August 6-7, in Baltimore. This festival for the EDM lovers features Bassnectar, Tiesto and Zedd. Need a little bass drop in your life? Moonrise is for you!

3. Great Falls/Billy Goat Trail

The Potomac River flows through Great Falls National Park, making this destination a great place for a scenic hike or picnic with your friends. The park in McLean, Va., is also near Billy Goat Trail, a 4.7-mile hiking trail in Montgomery County, Maryland. Billy Goat Trail is a great place to explore and will present you with views for days.

4. Annapolis, Maryland

Home to the Naval Academy, Annapolis  is a beautiful scenic town surrounded by water. Take a stroll down Main Street toward Ego Alley for a day of shopping. The state capital is also rich with history and things to do. Whether it’s exploring the Naval Academy base or sailing on the Woodwind or Woodwind II (featured in Wedding Crashers!), you should definitely spend a day checking out this hidden gem!
