This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Gettysburg chapter and does not reflect the views of Her Campus.
I am going to start this article with a disclaimer. Â I am not commenting on policies in this article, and I am not stating an opinion on who out of all of the candidates should be the next president. Â I am merely explaining why, as a woman, I find it impossible to support Donald Trump, as a person and also as a candidate for president.
This presidential race has been extremely surprising. Â Instead of the Clinton vs Bush race that most people expected, we have had Bernie Sanders with quite a large following from the Democrats along with Donald Trump coming out of nowhere and having overwhelming support from the Republicans.
There are a few reasons why I cannot support Trump, but the top one is how he treats/talks about women. Â To show what I am talking about, here are a few actual quotes from Trump on women:
“You know, it doesn’t really matter what they write as long as you’ve got a young and beautiful piece of a**.”
“Look at that face.  Would anyone vote for that?  Can you imagine that, the face of our next president?  I mean, she’s a woman, and I’m not supposed to say bad things, but really, folks, come on.  Are we serious?” – Trump on opponent Carly Fiorina
“Blood coming out of her wherever” -Trump on Megyn Kelly after she asked about his past sexist remarks on women
“A woman who is flat-chested is very hard to be a 10.”
“You have to treat [women] like s***.”
Â
These quotes are just a few of the many quotes towards women from Trump, and not one of them is something that I do not find offensive.  “You have to treat [women] like s***.”  Is that really what we want from our next president?  Someone who believes in treating women terribly, and that it is okay?  If Hillary Clinton was making comments like these about men, she would be labeled as a “feminazi”, and there is no way that she would still be in the running for president.  However, Trump is still receiving support, from both men and women.  I will not be one of these people.  There is no way, that I would ever be able to support someone who does not believe in equality between men and women, and in fact continues to act against it.  It is 2016, we should not have to worry about someone with such sexist views entering the white house, and yet we do.  It is my hope, that all of you will stand with me, and not support Donald Trump for president because women deserve better, America deserves better.
