Panhellenic Exec: Who are We?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at TCU chapter.

Everyone who has gone through Formal Recruitment has seen us. We are the wacky women standing on the arena floor, the tired and soaking wet women running around to save your PNM bags from the rain, the joyful and screaming women as you open your envelope on bid day. No, not your rho gammas. You may have not even noticed us going through, but recruitment wouldn’t have happened without us.

We are the Panhellenic Executive Board. The title is fancy, but what exactly do we do?

In short, Panhellenic Exec ensures that every member of every chapter receives an enriching and well-rounded sorority experience. For those of you who aren’t familiar with all of the terminology yet, Panhellenic is the umbrella organization that houses all 26 international sororities most of us know and love. TCU has 13 chapters under that umbrella, and Panhellenic governs them all. Many people believe that Panhellenic is the police officer, the bad guy who takes away your social events and gives you infractions during recruitment. That is so far from the truth. We at Panhellenic do have to inforce rules, but only so the sorority experience can transcend our collegiate years. It is each of our wish that every woman who wears Greek letters will feel safe, empowered and supported by us.

Every officer has a different job dedicated to making each member’s sorority experience amazing. We have 8 positions, including President, Vice President of Finance and Administration and Vice President of Recruitment Operations. I am the Vice President of Service and Philanthropy and my main job is to work closely with the philanthropy chairs of each chapter. Together, we create and approve events, as well as spread awareness about the issues throughout the entire campus. I am also in charge of the NPC, the national organization for Panhellenic Councils, philanthropy Circle of Sisterhood. This past summer, 16 representatives from TCU wearing every set of letter, traveled to Nicaragua to build a school funded by our community. This is one example of the amazing things Panhellenic women can do when bonded together.

The most important thing to know about Panhellenic Exec, and Panhellenic in general, is that we have the ability to truly make positive change. Panhellenic sorority women make up almost one-third of the entire student body and about half of all women. We are unquestionably the largest organization on TCU’s campus, and we have the power to make our voices heard. Do we want to stop sexual assault? We can make movements towards starting the conversation. Do we want participation at a service event? We will do everything we can to make it happen. Panhellenic women working together can move mountains.

If you want to know more about Panhellenic and all we do, our exec and general council meetings are open to everyone! Check on the Panhellenic website for locations and time. If you want to join our exec board, which I suggest you do as it the most rewarding thing I have done at TCU, look at for more information regarding election. Welcome to the sisterhood that is larger than any other.
