2016 Election Lowdown: Basics

Hey Pirates! This week we’re starting a blog that will be updated leading up to November with new information on this year’s election. If you’re not interested in politics, the election could seem hard to follow or completely unappealing. This is the first election that many of us are going to be able to participate in as registered voters. Use this blog to keep updated on what’s going on as November 8th gets closer!

  • Donald Trump and his campaign have announced a new plan to increase fundraising, as the campaign trailed behind Clintons fundraising in August bringing in only $90 million. Clinton raised $143 million.
  • Trump has repeatedly expressed his admiration of Russian President, Vladimir Putin’s leadership style. This has created some tension between Trump and other members of the GOP.
  • Hilary Clinton and Donald Trump shared the stage Wednesday during the Commander and Chief Forum. Tensions between the two candidates continue to rise as the first Presidential debate of the election season is quickly approaching.
  • Hilary Clinton faced questions during Wednesday’s forum about her email scandal that took place during her time as Secretary of State. Matt Lauer moderated the debate and has been scrutinized for the way he handled the forum- especially how long he spent on the email scandal. For more info check out this article.
