HUM nutrition is an LA-based (formerly London) beauty-nutrition company that specializes in non-GMO, vegetarian, and gluten free supplements and vitamins meant to enhance both beauty and well-being. The company’s byline is “beauty starts from within”– something I’m sure we’ve all been told once or twice. HUM has been spoken about by dozens of YouTubers and internet-famous bloggers. It’s been featured in Vogue, Glamour, and many other lifestyle and fashion magazines. The draw to the company comes not only from their mission, but the large promises each vitamin claims to fulfill. From “Runway Ready” which promises shiny hair, perfect nails, and glowing skin to “Air Patrol” which is meant for us city dwellers to support skin that is regularly exposed to air pollution, their products are raved about. Being a skeptic when it comes to anything relating to beauty supplements, I’m left wondering if they can truly be as good as they claim? After much research through HUM’s website reviews, Sephora reviews, and any writing on HUM I could get my hands on, I decided to start simple and test out two products.
Â
The first I chose is called Base Control. It’s a multivitamin with 22 essential micro-nutrients that is said to support vision, skin, immunity, energy, and proper growth. These are hefty promises in my opinion, but this seemed like a simple enough option to bet on. I had never regularly taken any vitamin–like I said I’m a skeptic–but I noticed a change in how I felt within a week. They didn’t make me nauseous as so many other multivitamins have in the past and they didn’t have any weird aftertaste that has also put me off of the whole idea. However, they certainly aren’t miracle workers. The biggest thing I noticed was that it seemed to regulate my sleep cycle leaving me much more energized during the day. Nothing else stood out as an obvious improvement besides just overall better feeling. I’ll continue to take Base Control and I think it is a great starting point for anyone hesitant to start something like this.

The second HUM product I tested out is their organic superfood powder called Raw Beauty. This product pushes away from the beauty side of the company and more towards their nutrient-rich products. It’s meant to boost energy, help protect against environmental stress, detoxify your body, give you radiant skin, and support your metabolism and digestion. If I’m being honest, this one scared me. The list of ingredients in this is enough to fill a novel and I could not imagine drinking all of that down mixed with a full glass of anything. However, if it did all it claimed, I would be the closest I’ve ever been to having superhuman abilities and I figured that deserved a shot. This can be mixed with 8oz of water, milk, or your favorite smoothie. I went with almond milk based on the website’s recommendation. I mean it when I say this tasted like melted mint chocolate ice cream. Best part–it’s totally acceptable to drink for breakfast. This is another winner for me. Not even coffee has made me feel this ready to take on the day and those afternoon snacks that I usually crave are now a thing of the past!

Based on these two products, I can’t say anything negative about HUM. Obviously, everything they claim can not always be true for everyone, but the fact that even some aspects are has me changing my tune on the whole idea. The main thing this company does right and the reason I think it’s talked about so highly is that it feels good to do something every day that is good for you and will make you feel like a better version of yourself. On top of that, the products I tried actually do a lot of what they say they will. By no means is beauty from within a new idea, but HUM has executed it well enough to earn the credit they are given. Now go ahead and treat yourself to some HUM nutrition!
