As everyone knows by now, summertime in Cola is no joke… and by summertime, we mean every day from March to October. With the almost year-round heat, here are eight ways to help you survive everything from walking to class to game day tailgates!

1. Stay Hydrated… duh

A Swell water bottle will save your life. When you’re walking around campus, you absolutely have to have a water bottle or you’ll probably pass out. Ditch the plastic water bottles; they just turn to bath water. This one keeps it icy cool for 12 hours.

2. Makeup Primer

Praise the primer; it is every girl’s savior. Apply before your make up and bam, perfection all day. Personally, we reccommend Urban Decay. And if you want long-lasting makeup all the way into the night, try their All Nighter setting spray.

3. BB Cream

Honestly, who even knows WTF BB Cream is. All we know is that when you’re running out the door to class, the last thing you want to do before you step into the sauna (aka outdoors) is put on a full face of makeup. However, sometimes you just need some color, and that’s where BB Cream comes in. It’s light, easy, and does the trick.

4. T-Shirts and Norts

Everyone is guilty of wearing the go-to college girl uniform—you know exactly what we’re talking about. Real clothes are definitely a no-go during the first couple months of school, unless you actually like peeling your clothes off at the end of the day.

5. Hairspray Your Face

Just trust us on this one. If you don’t happen to have any fancy setting spray on hand, this trick will save your life. Just a quick spray is all you need to keep that makeup in place, no matter how hot it is, just make sure you close your eyes when you spray it!

6. Take Advantage of the Shade

Why walk down Greene Street on the steaming concrete when you can stroll through the shade on the Horseshoe? There isn’t a sane answer, so don’t do it. Not only is it prettier to look at, but it saves you some sweat stains.

7. Switch Out Your Coffee

Calm down, we don’t mean getting rid of your coffee entirely. Just switch from hot to iced in the summer. It seems like a no brainer, but you’d be surprised how many people are walking around campus and complaining about how hot it is with a steaming latte in their hand. Tip: you can even buy half-gallon cartons of cold brew coffee at the grocery store.

8. Morrocan Oil… Know It, Live It, Love It

When the humidity is through the roof, it’s hard to prevent frizz. Moroccan oil can help keep your hair in place with just a few drops. It works wonders for smoothing out any fly aways that can make your hair look oily.

Follow our tips to get through life in the famously hot Columbia…and let’s just hope fall gets here soon.
