Post Study Abroad Sorrows

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Elon chapter.

Whether you are a senior reminiscing on your junior year semester abroad or wanting to re-live your three weeks of bliss during winter term, insert post-abroad depression.

The start of fall may bring back those unforgettable memories, or you may find yourself thinking of where to travel next this winter term or spring semester. In order to take advantage of the promising year ahead, try some of these tips to beat your Elon blues.

Travel

Ok, so you may not be able to take a tour of Europe with your best friends during fall break, but think about visiting places nearby. Instead of going home for breaks or repeating the same weekend festivities, plan a trip with friends to mimic the abroad experience. Cities like Charleston and Asheville make great weekend getaways. You don’t need to be abroad to stay at an Air B&B!

Wine and Dine

Already stuck in a food rut? Try out a new restaurant outside of campus. There are amazing restaurants in Raleigh and Greensboro that will take you out of Elon (physically and mentally) to help recreate the excitement of abroad eats.

Reconnect with Abroad Friends

If the abroad Instagrams and Snapchats from new students at your program have you feeling down, try reconnecting with friends you made on your trip. Get together to reminisce about your time together abroad. This is the perfect time to strengthen your friendships if post-abroad life created some distance.
