Although each Belle is unique in their own special way, we all share many similarities. If I were to walk around Saint Mary’s campus for a day, I think I could name 8 types of girls I saw multiple times throughout my time there. Some girls might not see themselves as any of these, and some might see themselves as being a mixture of many different girls. Either way, you’re pretty cool- keep doing you.
1. Prepster Girl
Saint Mary’s is full of prep! So preppy, that you probably know the initials of half the girls in your class by the second day. These are the girls who are always looking very put together- outfit perfection. They are sure to stay on top of tasks and get good grades thanks to their Lily planners. From their pearls (everyday), to their bean boots in the fall & winter, to their RL oxfords, there is no missing these preppy girls strutting across campus.
2. Nap and Netflix Girl
School here is tough! That is why Belles need naps… and Netflix. Everyone naps, and most girls Netflix, but some make it a living. You can spot one of these rare specimens with their pajama bottoms on from the night before, wearing a hat in order to hide the “haven’t showered in 3 days” hair, an oversized t-shirt, moccasin slippers, and no makeup. You can count on these girls for having Jimmy Johns and Papa Johns delivery numbers engraved in their memory. The tunnel from Le Mans to the student center is their saving grace.
3. Obsessed with High School Girl
“Did you guys here Justin Bieber is coming to SMC this weekend to perform?? We are so going!”
— “Dang, I am going home for my hometowns pep rally…wish I could.”
High school was awesome, but college is better. Right? The girl stuck in high school would beg to differ. They love their high school so much; it becomes apart of their identity at college. You’ll catch them at their decked-out desk, which displays pictures of their hometown friends and family. These girls love Thursdays! Why you might ask? They get to #TBT to the good ‘ole high school days. Even though they have a deep love for where they came from, that doesn’t mean they don’t love where they are now—Saint Mary’s College!
4. Does she even go here?, girl
Unlike the other girls, you probably won’t run into the “does she even go here?” girl very often. These girls are super involved at Notre Dame- either in clubs, classes, sports, or boys. To class they rep ND hats, clothes, notebooks, etc. A few times a week these lucky girls get passes to eat at ND, experience a bigger campus feel, and best of all- get to see boys!! It’s truly the best of both worlds being a Saint Mary’s student- and these Belles are proving it.
5.Workout girl
These foxy mamas can be seen in their lulu yoga pants, gym shoes, ponytail, and headphones- running down the Ave. They are always on the go- finding time for a workout sesh between activities and classes multiple times a week. Their favorite hangout spots are the basement of Regina (aka the gym) and the dining hall- where they eat their protein packed meals 3 times a day! People are often envious of these girls’ motivation and determination to get and stay fit. The one we don’t like about “the workout” girl is that they tend to make other girls feel lazy, while they stay buzzing with energy all day, every day.
6.Student athlete girl
You might as well call this girl the bag lady. Since there isn’t much time during the day to go back to their rooms due to the busy schedule of school+ sports, they carry more bags than the rest of us. Saint Mary’s student athletes are no doubt committed and know how to manage their time better than the rest! Although they have the downside of a lot of sweaty laundry and spend longer nights in Trumper, they also have the perks of picking their schedules before all the other students –snatching the best times, teachers, and classes. SA motto: Just Do It.
7.Party girl
This chick is a huge fan of the G.N.O.’s!! They have the best closets- rompers and dresses galore. They are never afraid of having too much fun and are always up for a night out on the streets of South Bend. If you pass by their room at night, you’ll hear a blow dryer and the latest hits blasting in the background. Later that night, you’ll receive multiple snap chat story updates of their night, and 10 more when you wake up.They can be seen in their PJ’s and makeup smudged eyes at Noble Family DH on Sunday… eh around 1?
8.The girl in scrubs
These are the only Saint Mary’s girls you don’t have to ask “wait what’s your major again?”. They live, wear, and breathe the Nursing life. You can catch these girls in their sexy white gym shoes and their blue SMC scrubs- hard to miss. If you have a friend who is in the nursing program, lets face it- you probably know more about their classes and teachers than your own. The good thing about having a nursing friend is if you get sick, they are just a door away
