The Perfect Makeup Routine in 20 Minutes or Less

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Western chapter.

Whether you’ve actually been studying, or just telling your parents you’ve been studying all night (wink, wink), this simple foolproof makeup tutorial is so easy you can do it on no sleep, with just coffee in your veins!

Step 1: Wash Your Face, Girl

Trust me, you’ll feel a little livelier after washing your face. You should do your regular morning skincare routine. I like to use my First Aid Beauty Cleanser on my Clarsonic, followed by the First Aid Beauty moisturizer. I have dry skin and this product is heaven in a plastic bottle! After, I apply the First Aid Beauty 5-in-1 eye cream. Then, I have to give my face time to absorb the product, so I apply my make up primer. Primer is important; it helps protect your skin from your makeup, it helps your makeup last longer, and can help reduce breakouts! I like to use the Too Faced Hangover Primer. Its main ingredient is coconut water, which causes it to smell lightly of coconut in a way that is not too overpowering.

Step Two: Concealer Is Key

If you’re like me, you were not blessed with flawless skin (thanks for nothing, mom and dad). However, there are ways to trick people into thinking you were. The best trick in the book is concealer! I’m currently using Maracuja Creaseless Concealer by Tarte on any blemishes, and Smashbox BB Under Eye Concealer under my eyes. Once I’ve finished applying, I blend. I blend it like crazy with my Quo makeup sponge. I cannot stress this enough: blending is key.

Step Three: Foundation and Contour

After I’m done blending, my skin looks like a beautiful, spotted, but blended, mess. I apply my foundation next. I prefer a fuller coverage foundation that gives me a sought after, airbrushed glow. I am currently using Smashbox Studio Skin 15 Hour Wear Foundation. I love this foundation, however it is a little on the pricier side. I  have very sensitive skin and I have yet to break out from this foundation, so for me, it’s worth the cost! After I dot on the foundation I blend it with my make up sponge and set it with Too Faced Primed and Poreless Pressed Powder. Then I quickly contour with my Kat Von D Shade and Light Contour Kit, making sure to blend everything out to avoid looking streaky. To contour, I take a dark bronze colour, swipe it on my cheekbones and then blend it out. This gives more definition to my face.

Step Four: Eyebrows and Lips

At this point, I like to take it up a notch, and make it look like I have eyebrows from a distance. Unfortunately, I was not blessed with amazing eyebrows either… so I fake it! Using the Anastasia Beverly Hill Eyebrow Pomade I fill in my eyebrows until they resemble something close to Brooke Shields’ glorious brows. I add a little lipstick as a finishing touch, and I’m out the door! This whole look takes me (on a day I’m not distracted and dancing while getting ready), 15 – 20 minutes!
