10 Signs You Grew Up In A Hispanic Household

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Winthrop chapter.

The wrath of the chancla still haunts you. If you grew up in a Hispanic household, you know you can relate to all of these things!

1. Every weekday, 5 o’clock meant getting your daily news from Primer Impacto.

2. No container was ever really what it seemed.

3. If someone is bumping some Marc Anthony at an ungodly hour of the morning, it’s cleaning day. Chances are, your mom is already singing into the broom.

4. You know every word to the Selena movie and you miss her, even if you were born after she passed away.

5. Injured? Three words: Vick’s Vapor Rub.

6. If there was a soccer game on, you didn’t make a peep, especially during the World Cup.

7. Your mom never needed more cabinets because she stored stuff in the oven (and you definitely always forgot to take it out when you needed to use the oven).

8. You were probably a dama in at least one quince, which meant wearing a dress that vaguely resembled a pastry.

9. Your mom swore by Goya products—namely, Adobo.

10. Your parents are probably loud and goofy and maybe embarrassing sometimes, but you know they gave up everything so you could have a better life–and you’re beyond grateful.
