Campus Cutie: Maggie Kilbane

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Saint Mary's chapter.

If you have never  had the pleasure of meeting the sweet,  fun-loving, and kind-hearted soul, Maggie Mae Kilbane, I pray that one day you do. However, until that day, here are a few fun facts about this week’s campus cutie!

Age: 21

Year: Senior

Major: Communicative Sciences and Disorders  (Speech-Language Pathology)

Minor: Psychology

Hometown: Chicago, IL

What was your favorite thing you did this summer?

~This summer I had the opportunity to visit one of my best friends and her family in San Francisco. I spent 5 days exploring all the beautiful things that San Fran has to offer all while in great company. I had a burrito for the first time, which was heavenly! I also drank some of the best coffee I have ever had (I’m a coffee addict btw). I went to a Giants game and had an amazing hike around  Muir Woods- home to the redwood trees. Not to mention the boutiques there were killer. It was definitely a trip I won’t forget!

What is your favorite thing to do when you go home for fall break?

~I don’t know if I can pick just one! However, I would have to say  that laying around  on my couch with my dog, attending the Blackhawks game with my family, and going shopping then on sushi dates with my mom are a few of my top favorites!

How did you come about choosing your major?

~As a freshman, I knew right away that I am not the  type of person cut out for the 9-5 desk cubicle lifestyle. I wanted and still want to work one on one with people. I have always been very interested in both health and education professions so I originally thought I wanted to go into physical therapy. However, as soon as I took my first intro to communicative disorders class I knew that it was the major for me. It encompasses everything I want in a professional setting and I look forward to continuing my education to become a Speech-Language Pathologist.

What are your plans for the future after graduation?

~Currently, I am in the process of applying to graduate schools for Speech Language Pathology so I am hoping that after graduation I will be getting ready to move onto grad school to accomplish my dreams.  However,  if that doesn’t work my backup plan is to move to Australia and work in a coffee shop.

Why Saint Mary’s (other than the fact that it’s the greatest place in the world)?

~I love Saint Mary’s because it lets me truly live the best of both worlds. I am a sports fanatic and having an amazing sports teams to rally around all the time is so convenient. I also love that my professors know me by my name and take an interest in  my life outside of class. I think this has really helped me succeed academically and figure out how I can use my talents in a career setting. I’m not sure if I knew when I chose Saint Mary’s if it was the right choice for me, but I definitely know now that the reason I love Saint Mary’s is because it lead me to the people I know will be my lifelong friends. These girls are my people and I am so happy that I get to spend my last year here living with them. So yes, I do agree that it is the greatest place in the world!
