When you’re being spread too thin.

Mid-terms just ended. You have 3 family functions to attend. About 4 homework assignments on top of a huge homework assignment. Oh and you can’t forget that you’d promised to hang out with your friends from high school this weekend and volunteer at that one service club. Sound familiar? If so, no worries… I completely understand. Let’s take a look at how to balance whenever we feel we’ve been “spread too thin.”

  1. Take a Breath!

  • This tip is essential if you plan on keeping that beautiful head of yours on straight! Before the week ahead of you, take a minute to gather your thoughts. Trust me, your brain will thank you when you keep those stress levels down by keeping you calm, cool, and collected.

  1. Make a Schedule

  • Prioritize. Prioritize. Prioritize. Before starting the day, make a mental checklist of all the things that need done. (My tip: Buy a cute monogrammed notepad to keep things festive!) Be sure to list them in order of importance so that if you find yourself in a jam, you don’t have to worry! Cross the item off when it’s complete, that way you can see how much hard work you’ve done.

  1. Say “No”

  • Learning how to say no can be one of the toughest things to do. Who you have to say it to might make it even harder. Once your able to say no, time will open up for you to focus on you!

  1. Recognize Beauty

  • Have you looked outside lately? Because seriously, it is gorgeous out there. Be sure to stop and smell the roses every once in a while. I guarantee that you’ll feel better and more connected afterward.

  1. Listen to your Body

  • Know the signs of when your body is feeling overworked. Feeling anxious, exhausted, moody? Maybe it’s time to take a quick power nap or to just sit down in silence and listen to a favorite song of yours.

Now go rock it collegiate!

Hello there! I am the Campus Correspondent of the Her Campus chapter at Saint Vincent College. As a senior psychology major, I've made the most of my time in undergrad and am excited for all the doors I have opening ahead of me. I can definitely thank Her Campus for giving me invaluable skills. As a future psychologist, I hope that my articles (and the chapter's) are able to make you feel empowered, motivate you to start a conversation, and be kind. As a hero of mine has said, "If you do not take control over your time and your life, other people will gobble it up. If you don't prioritize yourself, you constantly start falling lower and lower on your list."- Michelle Obama. Be the change you want to see in the world, and smile. Always smile!
