8 Signs You’re An English Major

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at LMU chapter.

1. You have the English Major Starter Pack: The Norton Anthologies

Every English major has encountered these before, otherwise known as the massive collections of the greatest literature that weighs a ton.

2. You constantly get asked if you’re going to be a teacher

As an English major you are used to the question, “Oh, do you want to be a teacher?” … is that my only choice?

3. You cringe every time someone uses incorrect grammar.

It irks you when someone still doesn’t know the difference between there, their, or they’re.

4. You have multiple papers due next week, and they’re all analytical essays.

You have to figure out the meaning of the color blue in that one chapter, of that one novel. Meanwhile you’re not entirely sure what your other professor is talking about. SOS.

5. Your friends always ask you to edit their writing.

Why go to the ARC or to the library when you’re friends can have you look at their paper? But let’s be honest, do you really mind?

6. There is nothing worse than being interrupted while you’re reading.

7. Writer’s block

8You’re at the point that you can write a 10 page paper in one night

I mean, it may be due to putting off the paper until the day before it’s due… but it gets done, right? As we speak I’m putting off writing an essay by writing this article. oops..
