10 Couple Costumes for You and Your Dog

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCF chapter.

All over Pinterest, there are thousands of couple’s costume ideas for you and your significant other. But what about your REAL soul mate? Here’s 10 couple’s costume ideas for you and your dog. They are fairly easy to make; all you really need is scissors, craft glue, and a tolerant pupper. Then, you and the actual love of your life will be dressed to impress for Halloween.

Football

Are you a sports fan? Wear your favorite football jersey and put some laces on man’s best friend. I would recommend being a Running Back so you can carry your puppy everywhere.

Blue’s Clues

Satisfy the 90’s child in you and dress up as Steve and Blue from Blue’s Clues. All you need to be Steve is a green shirt, some fabric paint, and khaki pants. For extra help with Blue’s costume, there are plenty of online tutorials for every level of crafter. For extra fun, make a scavenger hunt of treats for your doggo.

Dorothy and the Cowardly Lion

Lots of human costumes would work with this adorable lion costume. You could dress as another animal and create a safari scene with your bestie, or you could dress up as Dorothy and take your doggie for a walk down the Yellow Brick Road.

Divas

This costume is basically playing dress-up with your best friend, just like when you were little. You can wear a robe, bright blue eyeshadow, platform flip flops, you name it! Your doggie is sure to love being pampered and made over like a celebrity.

Police and Donut

Change up the stereotypical cop costume with a living, breathing donut! This donut is very easy to make, and your pup will look cute enough to eat.

Beanie Babies

Similar to the lion costume, this one opens itself to many options. Make matching Ty tags for you and your dog, and the sky’s the limit. This costume is great for dogs who might not enjoy wearing more intricate costumes, and you are free to be whatever animal you want.

Fruit

Feeling fruity? Dress your dog as a pineapple and you can go as the fruit of your choice. Fruit costumes are super easy, and can usually be made with an oversized tee shirt. If you hug your dog all night, you can tell people you are a fruit salad!

Fairy Princess

This fairy princess costume can also be broken down into just fairy or just princess. Tutus are easy to make and fun to wear for humans AND puppies. Any average pair of fairy wings would be able to wrap around little doggie arms as well. To transition from fairy to fairy princess, just add a tiara. You’ll be pretty in pink with your pup.

Mermaid and Fish Friend

Sticking with the princess theme, you could dress up as Princess Ariel and turn your dog into an underwater fishy friend. If you aren’t a disney fan, any mermaid will do.

Mummy

If none of these costumes are spooky enough for you, dress your dog up as a mummy. You can use medical gauze, but make sure to wrap it loosely so your doggie is comfortable. If you want to go above and beyond, you can stain the gauze using a very diluted solution of ground coffee and water. Paint it on to the edges of the gauze to give it an old and weathered look. You can join your dog and be a mummy too, or  you can go a more glamorous route and dress up as a pharoah.
