7 Things All Cat Owners Know to Be True

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Western chapter.

When I was seven, I was allowed to decide what pet my family would get. I could choose between two cats or a dog. I had been so excited to get a dog, but I must have read a book or something that changed my mind and made me a cat lover. We had a friend who’s cat had just given birth, and there were two kittens left from the litter. I pestered my father, and we eventually went and picked up the little fluffballs. Fourteen years later, my cats became international students with me (they flew here, under the seat, next to my purse) and they have taught me many lessons. These seven things are too real for all cat owners.

1. You are just a food machine.

My cats will cry until I feed them. Then they come near you, and then run away, trying to get you to follow them to their food bowl.

2. You get affection on their terms.

“Please pet me!” *pets cat* *cat claws the sh*t out of you*

3. Your outfits are 99% cat hair.

So glad I did laundry—thanks for laying on the folded clothes and shedding everywhere!

4. The sound of a cat barfing in the middle of the night.

Not gonna go into more detail on this one. You’re welcome.

5. They don’t appreciate your sleep schedule.

4am? Time to scream for food! 11pm? Time to eat and play with your hair and your toes!

6. They’re….quirky.

My cats hate to be pet, but love to lick people. Maybe they’re trying to eat me?

7. They just want your love.

Cats just want to sleep, eat, and get petted. I’m happy to fulfill those needs.
