Brittny Stromme leads her life by the mantra: You can’t have a million-dollar dream with a minimum-wage work ethic. By being pre-med, with a major in Kinesiology and a focus in Human Fitness and Performance, Stromme implements a lead-by-example attitude.

Stromme is the president and an active member of Sigma Kappa Omega sorority. She initially joined the sorority in search of meaningful relationships. However, after some time in the sorority, she realized she wanted to take on a leadership role.

“After being in it for a few semesters, the leadership was at an all time low, so I decided to run for president and step up,” Stromme says.

Being the president as well as an active sister comes with specific duties in which Stromme explains.

“Some unspoken duties are to take a genuine interest in sister’s lives and keep an open and welcoming environment for all kinds of opinions.

“More of the physical responsibilities are planning events, leading meetings and making sure conflicts between sisters are handled in a smooth and professional way— often times putting me as a mediator. Occasionally, I have to play the bad guy by enforcing rules outlined in our constitution and pick up the slack when a chair or other executive member is not fulfilling her duties,” Stromme says.

As if juggling pre-med courses and leading a sorority isn’t busy enough, Stromme also works. She is an SFA 101 student instructor, which she does for about six hours a week. She is also a nanny for a 5-month-old, which is an additional 15-20 hours a week.

Stromme loves her busy schedule, however. It keeps her constantly ambitions, persistent and motivated.

“I love being involved. Part of the reason for me pursuing a career in the medical field is the daily interaction I’ll get to have with patients and colleagues.

“That’s what involvement means to me, the constant presence of human interaction that keeps me going. Also, I’m not a lazy person; I can’t stand sitting still for long periods of time— I have to constantly be doing things,” Stromme explains.

Stromme has found an admirable balance between staying busy, having a high GPA and keeping up with a prevalent social life. She is even running for Homecoming Queen this fall!

“Taking part in a big SFA tradition seems like a good way to go out my last semester,” Stromme says.

In Stromme’s spare time, you can find her at the gym, participating in intramural sports, reading or being outdoors.

Stromme is preparing to graduate this December. Since one cannot attend medical school until the fall semester, Stromme will be taking a gap semester, immersing herself into one more medical school pre-requisite. She will then be attending medical school in the fall of 2017.

Since Stromme has accomplished so much during her time at SFA, she is definitely set up for excellence after graduation.
