Golden State Warriors: Team Cohesion at its Best

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Waseda chapter.

Basketball is undoubtedly one of the most popular sports around the world. As a hard-core basketball fan myself, how can I not mention the NBA? Millions of NBA fans around the world anticipate for the game season, which lasts from the end of October to mid-June every year. 15 teams from the Western conference and 15 teams from the Eastern conference show-off their talents in high-intensity games, with the aim of getting the ultimate championship win.

The nearly mesmerizing basketball games played amongst elite players has always been my keen interest, and watching the fast pace games through online streaming is enough to give me rushes of adrenaline. Amongst the 30 teams in total, my favorite team is definitely the Golden State Warriors! Here are three major reasons why I decided to root for this amazing team.

1. It’s all about the captain, Stephen Curry

Stephen Curry is truly one of the most famous NBA players discussed around the world today. Fans coin him with various nicknames, including his personal favorite “baby-faced assassin”.

Curry received the NBA MVP two years in a row and is well-known for his astounding three-point shooting accuracy, which earned him the term “Splash Bros” together with Klay Thompson. Not only is Curry the captain of the Warriors’ team, but he also devotes his time to various charity works and stays humble at all times. On top of all this, Steph is quite a young, cute, and charismatic dude.

2. Warriors squad defines cohesion and passion at its best

Why was the Golden State Warriors team able to break the long-held NBA regular season record last season? It would be extremely difficult to name all the merits of this team as the Warriors is such a unique team. In a nutshell, fifteen talented players are able to merge their potentials and play magic in almost all games – not to mention the countless three-point splash performances shared with Dubnation (Warriors’ fans). It may be easy for elite basketball players to have their beef with other elite players, yet the Warriors team shattered this thought completely. They all merge so perfectly together and shine bright in each game.

3. Key man behind the scenes: Coach Kerr

Two years ago, Steve Kerr became the new coach for the Warriors team. While others are still making assumptions at how this rookie coach can lead such a fantastic team, Coach Kerr led the Warriors to acquire the long-awaited championship for 40 years. Some NBA team coaches display their somehow erratic personalities – how about coach Kerr? I would describe him as a mild guy, but he is definitely the core pillar of the Warriors’ team. Coach Kerr rarely gets mood swings and is quite good-tempered; however, at times when the team is performing sub-par, he does shout or even slams the strategy board to the ground. Despite all this, coach Kerr is able to hold the entire team together as one, which is why I think the Warriors team is a precious family.

To me, basketball is more than just a sport and is truly an indispensable part of my life. From the Warriors team, I learned that basketball is full of passion, teamwork, and positivity: these simple reasons are enough to make me fall in love with this charming sport and team.
