10 Ways to Save Money as a College Student

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Oneonta chapter.

Even if you’re working two jobs, it’s a struggle being a college student and trying to buy everything you want. Here are some selected tips that any college student can use to try and save some money!

 1. Shop where they offer student discounts. There are places that offer discounts to students with a school ID or use your Oneonta Discount Card (they have plenty at Hunt).

 2. Use the app UNiDAYS which offers in-store and online coupons and discounts for college students.

 3. Make dinner with friends and split the cost. Or if you have a dinning plan, use it instead of eating out!!

 4. Check books out from the library instead of buying books you’ll only use for a short period of time.

 5. SUCO offers so many activities. Take advantage of them rather than spending money on going out.

 6. Drink water. It’s free and healthy.

 7. Avoid coffee shops and make your own coffee.

 8. Use Spotify and Pandora instead of buying music. Buy used textbooks and sell last semester’s books back.

 9. Walk, use public transportation or ride a bike instead of driving your car or taking a taxi.

 10. Don’t make impulsive purchases.

Try and see if any of these tips will work before you swipe that card!
