3 Easy Halloween Costumes for Under $20

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Tufts chapter.

Halloween costumes can be expensive, especially if they are full ready-to-wear outfits. Here are some quick and easily put together Halloween costumes that can be bought for under $20, or that can be partially created using items you may already own.

1. Mermaid

Who doesn’t want to be a mermaid? The key component of this costume is a pair of shimmery fish-scale effect mermaid leggings. Any shirt could be worn, but here is an example of a corset top you could wear that would match the leggings perfectly.

Leggings – $4.98 (Ebay)

Corset Top – $13.99 (Walmart)

You could also add some blue or green face/body glitter! If you don’t want any glitter, this costume will total under $20!

Glitter – $3.99 (Ulta)

2. Dora the Explorer

This is such an easy costume, especially since you might already own the right colored shirt and shorts. The most important part is Dora’s signature backpack. It doesn’t need to look exactly the same, but here is a perfect backpack to add to the look (complete with map, of course).

Backpack – $12.99 (Amazon)

Any white sneakers can be worn for this costume (you can skip the yellow socks if you don’t own some already).

Pink T-Shirt – $1.69 (Amazon)

Orange Shorts – $5.27 (AugustaActive.com)

3. Butterfly

This costume is the easiest of all – and under $15. All you need are these amazing butterfly wings and an all-black outfit to go with them.
