With Halloween right around the corner, next Monday to be exact, time is running out to buy costumes – at this point, most of the good costumes are gone anyway. I’m sure most of you have been planning since September 30th, saved up, and bought the costume. For those of you who are like me (procrastinators represent), you are saving that money to put towards your education or a nice vacay in spring and summer. As with my last two Halloweens celebrated at college, I will be utilizing my everyday clothing for my costume – I’m going to be a pirate this year. (Last year, I was a soldier and the year before that, I was a football player.) Here are some last minute ideas for all of you out there, guys and girls alike!

PIRATE (a.k.a. my costume)

  • Black leggings or black skinny leg jeans

  • A long shirt (make sure it goes past your butt) or a regular one

    • A peasant style shirt works best

  • A blazer (optional…works best with the regular shirt)

  • Dark makeup: eyeliner, lipstick (not for the guys, unless you want to), a scar for effect

  • Scarf – to tie around your head

  • Tall boots

  • A belt to go around your waist

*Prepare to walk the plank!

A STARBUCKS DRINK

  • A white dress and green leggings

Or

  • A white shirt and white pants

  • A coffee lid (for either a hot or cold beverage)

    • For cold beverage:

      • You will also need a green straw

      • The Starbucks logo (tape it to your white shirt/dress)

    • For hot beverage:

      • Cardboard (tape around your stomach)

      • The Starbucks logo (goes on the cardboard)

*It should look something like this

A BLACK CAT

*This is the simplest costume

  • A black shirt

  • Black pants/leggings/skirt and stockings

  • Black shoes

  • Black makeup for the whiskers, nose and eyes

  • Optional: black lipstick

  • Headband (one you don’t care about)

  • Cardboard

    • Cut out cat ears, paint them black and glue them to the headband

GYPSY/FORTUNE TELLER

*Similar to the pirate costume

  • A plain shirt (it can be loose)

  • Optional: a vest

  • A long skirt

  • A belt (to go around you waist)

  • Hoop earrings

  • Lots of bangle bracelets and other miscellaneous pieces of jewelry

  • A scarf to tie around your head

*It should look something like this

I didn’t forget about the fellas…although, you are welcome the options above! Ladies, you are not limited to those, either.

A BASKETBALL/SOCCER PLAYER

  • A jersey (for all my non-sports people, PLEASE make sure the jersey is from the actual sport)

  • Shorts – ones for basketball/soccer or working out

  • Sneakers (for basketball) or cleats (for soccer)

    • For my ladies, you could get away with any type of shoes #GIRLPOWER

  • Knee-high socks

*These can go for a football player costume, with very minimum changes!

CLARK KENT/SUPERMAN

  • Glasses

  • A suit

  • A Superman shirt – don’t act like you don’t have one!

*Put your Superman shirt on under the suit and make sure it’s visible

REMINDER: there are a million and one options out there for possible costumes. Play around with the clothes in your closet and you’ll create something amazing. I would love to add more ideas, but then this article wouldn’t end! Stay safe and have a HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!

(Please stand clear of clown costumes – for obvious reasons.)
