If you go to UPRRP, you know you can choose to identify yourself with a lot of things. But here we have ten things every gallito or jerezana can definitely identify with:

  1. Rio Piedras is not a scary place anymore. Everybody talks about how Río Piedras is not a safe place and how it has lost its life, but the truth is that Río is still safe and fun and you know that because Río is Río.

  2. You never see the trolley. We do have a trolley that works during the day but we can’t count on it because when you most need it, it’s nowhere to be found.  Don’t lie! This is my junior year and I swear I’ve never taken the trolley.

  3. “Use underground tunnel?” Where?! We all know how to cross the Avenida. Walking across the Avenida may be hard the first weeks of school but then… “Stop little car. I am coming through.” And what about the “Use túnel subterráneo para cruzar” sign? Is there even a sign? We don’t care. We own the Avenida.

  4. Don Goyo, I love you! It is probable you’ve never spoken to him. You don’t even know his real name. All you know is that you love that man and you wish you could have that spirit at some point of your life.

  5. You hate matricula week. Don’t deny it. Is the most feared time of the year because you literally need like three possible schedules prepared for when that day comes. Note: Please make sure you have slept enough the night before and please breathe, everything will work out. I promise.

  6. Everyday you have a struggle with your outfit. Should I go with the jeans and a jacket? Mmm… Better not! It will get hot at 10am. Should I go with the dress and sandals? But what if it rains? You’ll never make the right choice so just embrace your choice and move on.

  7. You get pissed off when someone asks “Which IUPI?” “¿CĂłmo que cuál IUPI? ¡IUPI solo hay una!” Most people don’t know this but every other campus is UPR_ (insert campus initial in the blank). So if you hear someone saying IUPI they are referring to the University of Puerto Rico Rio Piedras Campus. Note: We take this very seriously.

  8. You’ve run out of places to eat. BK is your worst enemy. You have visited every food concessionary there is to offer in the campus. Everyday you have the hope you’ll find something with the three B’s: Bueno, Bonito y Barato but you end up eating in the same places as last week.

  9. You are always looking for new places to study. The Lazaro is always full and everybody knows about Derecho’s Library so you are always looking for a new quiet place that you can go to and read that paper you haven’t finish reading for that 3pm class. Recommendation: The library at the 6th floor in Plaza Uni is my go-to.

  10. You are Gallito or Jerezana ALL-THE-WAY. It doesn’t matter how much you hate matricula week or how much you struggle with your outfits, the heat, or the trolley, you know you are passionate about your school. You will have those red and white colors stick to your heart forever. .
