Autumn is my favourite time of the year. It’s that point when the leaves turn red, and coffee shops become packed with excited cinammon lovers searching for the perfect autumnal hot chocolate. It’s also the perfect time to curl up and watch some super seasonal autumn films, so here are my top 5 film recommendations to give you that cosy autumn feeling!

1. Dead Poets Society

Captain my Captain! Whilst mildly heartbreaking, this film is one of my favourites, possibly because of it’s mix of poetry and inspirational quotes. The film follows the story of a group of boys inspired by their English teacher to form a poetry society. This film will make you fall in love with autumn and literature all over again – a must see!

2. Good Will Hunting

My goodness, where do I start with this film? It has Robin Williams playing a grieving pyschiatrist, a sensational performance from Matt Damon as an emotionally complex genius/ janitor, and – you guessed it – some super deep inspring quotes that seem to be a theme in this article! This film strikes the perfect balance between being touching and funny, perfect for procastination from all of these deadlines!

3. When Harry Met Sally

This film is a must for one of those nights when you want to get your girls round (or boys!), order a pizza and watch the greatest autumnal chick flick there is. This is the original friends-with-benefits film: it’s full of walks in the park, some fabulous knitwear and all the feels of a good old fashioned rom-com!

4. Penelope

This is one of the more lighthearted choices. It’s a good old family-friendly film set in autumn that follows the life of Penelope, a high society girl born with a family curse that leaves her with a pigs snout instead of a nose. Starring a cast of familiar faces, this film is all about self acceptance with a touching love story to match – perfect for cosy nights in!

5. You’ve Got Mail

Okay, this is a classic romantic comedy. And, yes, I am a sucker for Meg Ryan films – especially if said film involves Tom Hanks, so don’t even get me started on Forrest Gump. This classic boy meets girl story is also set in New York in the fall. I unapologetically love the 90s feel and brilliant one liners. Also, if you replace the emails with texts, this film isn’t so far off on its commentary of social media dating struggles in today’s world. This film is perfect if you want an easy watch to get you in the autumn mood.
