5 Ways To Beat the Post-Halloween Slump

You’ve been on Pinterest for weeks trying to find the perfect Halloween costume, but now Halloweekend is over and November is upon us. We have a whole month ahead of us before Thanksgiving, and yet another stretch before the winter holidays. It is easy to fall into a post-Halloween slump, but here are 5 tips to get your November off to a good start.

  1. Get into the holiday spirit.

Whether you celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, or any other winter holiday, the months leading up to the New Year are some of the best. The first snow (though we have already had that), drinking hot cocoa, making snowmen, spending time with family– there is so much to look forward to in the coming months. While it may seem like forever from now until Thanksgiving, it will go by faster than you think. Your roommates may hate you but you should have no shame about blasting that Mariah Carey holiday album and making a wish list online.

2. Throw yourself into your schoolwork

With midterms finally over, we are beginning the home stretch of this first semester. We still have a ways to go but the end is almost in sight, so stay in the library for that extra hour, go talk to your professor about concepts you don’t understand, and take advantage of any and all extra credit opportunities.

3. Change up your wardrobe

As the weather gets colder, we finally have to start putting away those cute shorts and sundresses in favor of more practical, warmer attire. Or do we? As the seasons change, there is an opportunity to change up your wardrobe and stun the school with your new almost-winter looks. Continue to wear your favorite mini skirt, but add some cute fleece-lined tights, throw a thick scarf over your favorite blouse, or get one a cute jackets with a furry hood.

4. Catch up with your friends back home

The first few months of school are crazy busy–getting back into the swing of things, and starting classes off on the right foot. It can be difficult to spend time with friends here and also keep up with the people you care about back home. Now that we are well into this semester and done with Halloween festivities, take some time to Skype your friends at other schools, or even write a few letters. At least for freshmen, the initial flow of care packages is probably slowing, and everyone would appreciate something to show them you’re thinking about them.

5. Make a new playlist

Have you been listening to the same playlist since September? A great way to make your daily routine a little more interesting is to create a new playlist. Walking around campus with your headphones in and a fire playlist in your ears is the easiest way to make you feel rejuvenated and ready to take on whatever November may throw at you.
