Fun Activities to Do During Parents Weekend!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Northwestern chapter.

For many Northwestern students, this weekend is the first time we have seen our parents since mid-September. As the quarter is over halfway done and midterm season is (hopefully) over, this weekend is a great time for self-care and a relaxing fun to spend with parents and siblings.

1. Football:

One fun thing that many of us will be doing with parents this weekend is going to the football game. Northwestern has been doing pretty well this season with a 4-4 record and the game with Wisconsin should be exciting. Take this time to teach your parents the Northwestern fight song and chant “JUSTIN JACKSON THE BALL CARRIER!” as loud as you can.

2. Shopping:

Parents’ Weekend is the perfect time to get some shopping and pampering done in Evanston and Chicago. As the weather changes, there are many fall and winter items I want to pick up, and there’s no need to leave Evanston to do seasonal shopping.

Crossroads

Even though a lot of us have been going to Crossroads recently to buy Halloween costumes and sell old clothes, it is also a great place to buy clothes for winter. They have so many cute sweaters, coats, scarves, and layering pieces for the next few chilly months!

Ruby Nails Evanston:

If your mom or sisters are coming out this parent’s weekend, one of the best ways to relax is a pedicure. The new nail salon, Ruby Nails, is a great place to treat yourself and your toes. Even if they never see the light of day with this cold weather coming up, you will feel fancy with cute toes.

3. Eating:

Parents weekend can be a great time for going out to some nice restaurants that one might not normally go to with our “broke college student” budget. Some of my favorites in Evanston are Farmhouse and Union Pizza.

Farmhouse offers traditional eats in a woody, Americana setting. Their menu is very hearty, which is great after a long day of tailgating, and offers a lot of meat options as well as delicious desserts.

Union Pizza

I went to Union Pizza when my Dad came to visit last year. At first I was intimidated by the trendy setting and dim lighting, but I was happily surprised when the menu was affordable and delicious. Although the restaurant is known for its artisan pizzas, there were also many interesting seafood and appetizer options.

With all of these awesome things to do, there’s no way you won’t have an awesome parents’ weekend!

Hi! I am a social policy major from San Francisco, California. Some of my favorites things to do are thrift shopping, exploring museums, and drinking tea. My role models are 90's TV heroines, and I love foggy days. I am super excited to be writing for HerCampus!
