New Orleans Delivery Apps Have Upped Their Game So You Never Have To Leave Your Couch

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Tulane chapter.

Sometimes, ordering food is hard. You have to actually pick up the phone, dial a number, speak to a human, and then wait years for said food to arrive with no indication of when it will arrive. Luckily, we live in the golden age of both technology and laziness, and the silicon valley has come to make your life easier. Enter Uber Eats and Postmates, two food delivery apps that have finally landed in NOLA. May you never have to speak to someone on the phone again.

Uber Eats

The Rundown: Brought to you by your favorite car service company, Uber eats operates out of the same app. Just open it up, swipe to the “Uber Eats” setting and bam–you’re there. If you don’t have Uber, you can also order online.

The Food: Uber Eats offers over 30 restaurants to choose from, including Willie Mae’s, Crepes a la Cart, and Tartine. Delivery time is displayed under each option, so you can sort based on how badly you need food right NOW.

Delivery: Right now, all delivery fees are waived in NOLA since the app is new. After this promotion is done, you will pay a flat fee of $5 no matter how many places you order from. Beware, however, since Uber can charge you a “busy fee” (much like surge pricing when you book a car) if you are ordering in or from a particularly busy area. Tipping isn’t “expected or required,” but if you want to tip you’ll have to do it in cash.

Promotions: Right now, no codes are available, but delivery fee is waived.

Postmates

The Rundown: Like Uber Eats, Postmates operates both out of an app and a website. You can make an account (very quick), and you’re all good to go.

The Food: Postmates also offers over 30 options, including rotating specials (right now, you can get a free Pumpkin Spice Latte–yes, free). Restaurants include options both Uptown, Downtown, and in the suburbs, so you will never run out of places to eat.

Delivery: Postmates delivery fees vary, so you don’t know exactly how much it will cost you. They also add in a 9% service fee, as well as “blitz pricing” if you are ordering at a busy time. Unlike Uber Eats, tipping can be done in the app once your order is delivered–drivers will not accept cash.

Promotions: Use VIPNOLA or SPOONOLA for $50 in delivery credits (about 10 deliveries). Also, keep checking for free items (was beignets, now is a PSL, who knows what is next)
