10 Horror Movies to Binge Watch After Halloween

Not ready to let go of Halloween yet? Here’s a round-up of our favorite scary movies to binge this weekend. After all, a Monday Halloween warrants double Halloweekends!

1.) A Classic Horror: “Psycho”

Alfred Hitchcock redefined the horror genre with this suspenseful classic. From its debut in 1960, “Psycho” became the most profitable black-and-white sound film ever. The plot centers on an embezzling secretary who finds herself staying the night at the run-down Bates Motel. She meets Norman Bates, a young proprietor with an obsession with taxidermy and an unhealthy relationship with his mother.

2.) A Suspenseful Horror: “Shutter Island”

While “Shutter Island” is deeply psychological, the scariest part is the suspense. Teddy Daniels (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his new partner (Mark Ruffalo) work to solve the impossible escape of a murderer from an insane asylum. There are hints of other gruesome happenings in the asylum, and as the investigation deepens, Teddy tries to find his way out alive.

3.) A Psychological Horror: “The Shining”

If you’re looking for a psychological classic, “The Shining” is perfect. Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson) works as a caretaker for a hotel while trying to cure his writer’s block. With him are his wife, Wendy, and his son Danny who is haunted by psychic visions. As Jack learns more about the hotel’s dark secrets his psyche unravels, leading to the torment of his family.

4.) Paranormal: “The Blair Witch Project”

The found-footage style of horror is put to great use in “The Blair Witch Project.” The movie follows the happenings of four film students making a documentary about a local legend murderer. As their investigation unfolds it takes a frightening turn when they lose their way in the woods and begin to hear horrifying noises.

5.) Science Fiction: “Resident Evil”

Based off of the wildly successful video games of the same name, “Resident Evil” stars Milla Jovovich and Michelle Rodriguez. They are both a part of a team who must shut down an evil laboratory before an undead virus infects the planet.

6.) Slasher: “Halloween (2007)”

A Halloween icon, Michael Myers never fails to frighten viewers with his expressionless mask and huge knives. Years after being committed to an asylum for murdering his stepfather and older sister, he escapes with intent to return to his hometown for his younger sister Laurie.

7.) Zombie Thriller: “28 Days Later”

When animal right’s activists released a chimp from a laboratory, they inadvertently released the beginnings of a zombie apocalypse. Jim (Cillian Murphy) wakes up from a coma a month after the outbreak only to find his city deserted for everyone but the savage zombie-like victims of the virus. He and a group of survivors work towards what will hopefully be safety.

8.) Comedy-Horror: “Jennifer’s Body”

A demon takes possession of a high school cheerleader’s body (Megan Fox) and to fulfills her craving for human flesh she turns on the male population her high school. Her best friend (Amanda Seyfried) notices what’s happening and vows to put an end to the bloodshed.

9.) Parody: “Shaun of the Dead”

Shaun is a middle-aged electronics store employee who lives with his slobby best friend. His mother and girlfriend desperately wish for him to grow up, and when London becomes overridden with zombies he has to rise to the occasion and save the day.

10.) Family: “The Nightmare Before Christmas”

An animated Halloween classic that can’t be forgotten is The Nightmare Before Christmas. Tim Burton creates a fantastic Halloween world with Jack Skellington, the pumpkin king who becomes bored with Halloween. And when Jack stumbles upon Christmastown, the festivities, and bright lights lead him to plot to steal Christmas and kidnap Santa Claus.
