Students at the University of Connecticut chanted “He’s not my president” as they marched down Fairfield Way all the way to Wilbus Cross in protest after the presidential election results.
Some students were dissatisfied with the outcome of the election and what it meant for the future and decided to hold a rally to protest and make it clear that even though Donald Trump has won, it does not mean that the fight is over or that anyone is backing down for their rights and beliefs.
As an undocumented student myself, the rally served as a way to unite the UConn community. I will not lie and say that I wasn’t afraid, because I was. But after the rally, I felt the comfort from my fellow Huskies and knew that they had my back and I had theirs.
Many students talked about not hiding in the shadows and emphasized that now, more than ever, we all need to be united.
The Latinx community, undocumented community, Black Lives Matter, LGBTQ, Muslim community, women, and men all marched together to let it be known that the UConn campus is a safe space for everyone and that love ALWAYS trumps hate.
