So…Donald J. Trump won the 2016 presidential election. As with every election, half of the voters were happy – congratulations to those of you who voted for him – while the other half of voters dreaded this news – I won’t lie, I’m with this half. I was hoping, to be quite honest, PRAYING that Mrs. Hillary Clinton would win. Like most of you, I don’t agree with everything she has done, but she was the best of a worse situation. But, I digress – this article isn’t about my views.

The next morning, many of the leaders of other countries sent their congratulations to Mr. Trump, along with some concerns. (TBH, this was expected as he spoke out against many of these countries publicly, especially Mexico.) Many articles on Buzzfeed.com, before the election, spoke of how U.S. voters should steer clear of voting for him. On the night of election, I read an article that entailed many tweets from the good people of Canada. The main theme of these tweets was, “America, please do not vote for this man!” Here are just a few tweets from our neighbors in Canada (from Buzzfeed.com):

Canadians weren’t the only ones who expressed their concern for our great country. Australia and Germany got in on the action.

(“How many Americans can we take in as refugees?”)

On a serious note, people from other countries and some country leaders showed just how troubled they were by the results of Mr. Trump being elected as president. In an article posted on nytimes.com, leaders from Asia, Latin America and Europe reportedly offered him, first and foremost, a congratulations on winning the presidency, then, they gave some advice to both Mr. Trump and the American people.

A statement was issued from the country of Venezuela asking that Mr. Trump essentially mind his own country’s business by ‘respecting nonintervention in internal issues and to the right of development and peace’” (from the New York Times). A cartoonist from Colombia, Vladimir Flórez wrote in El Tiempo newspaper “the excesses of this eccentric millionaire have proven that the number one enemy of the U.S. is not beyond its borders, but rather within” (as stated in the New York Times). Former prime minister of Poland, Donald Tusk, said that Brexit and the election of Mr. Trump should be “treated as a warning sign for all who believe in liberal democracy” (from the New York Times).

Donald Trump’s election as president has raised many red flags in other countries, who are all now on high alert. They plan to keep a close eye on Mr. Trump from here on out, all who have spoken out wish to continue on as before with President Barack Obama. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see – HERE’S TO HOPING, KIDS!
