Fun Holiday Events To Plan With Your Friends

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Illinois State chapter.

Christmas and winter break are right around the corner, woo hoo! For some of us this is very exciting because we can’t wait to finally catch a break from school and head home. For others, the thought of leaving school and our BFF’s for a whole month seems unbearable. Well – don’t worry. There’s plenty of time over break to get together with your friends while getting in the holiday spirit. Here are some festive things to do to keep your Winter Break fun!

1. Secret Santa

This is by far one of best and most festive events to plan with your friends. Get a group together and randomly pick names out of a hat to see who you’ll be buying a gift for! We’re all broke college students, so make the budget reasonable and have fun with it! Some of the best gifts are the ones that you put the most thought into. This makes for a super fun night of exchanging gifts and figuring out who bought your present. Throw on some holiday tunes, wear Christmas PJ’s and have everyone bring some yummy appetizers. It’ll feel just like Christmas morning, but with all of your best friends!

2. Cookie Exchange

If you’re trying to avoid the mall and buying gifts, this could be a great alternative to planning a Secret Santa event. Assign each friend a cookie recipe, then get together for the night to hangout and enjoy them! See who can get the most creative with their baking and decorating skills.

3. Movie Night

What’s better than binge watching Christmas movies? Get together with your friends on a chilly night, make some hot chocolate, and spend the night watching all of the holiday classics. ABC Family (freeform) kicks off their 25 Days of Christmas movies on Dec. 1!

4. Craft Day

There are some super cute holiday crafts that can be perfect to make as gifts, or just to make for fun! Head to the craft store with your friends to get your supplies then spend the day crafting with one another. If you’re not feeling super crafty, buying a blank ornament to decorate is another great alternative and will be a perfect addition to your family’s Christmas tree.

5. Ice Skating

Going ice skating is always a fun activity, but for some reason it just seems much more exciting to go in the winter! If you can, head to Chicago to ice skate in Millennium Park. The city is beautiful during this time of the year with all of the magical lights and festive decorations. Definitely worth the trip with your BFF’s.

Winter Break may be long, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get together with your friends! Try planning some of these fun and festive events to get your group of friends together to enjoy the holiday.
