Your 2016 Holiday Gift Guide

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Pitt chapter.

Didn’t get all of your holiday shopping done on Black Friday? Well, this is your one-stop shopping list for the most important people in your life. For this guide, I’ve chosen to choose items exclusively from Etsy, because I love Etsy first of all, but I also like buying from people who hand-make things – it allows people to pursue their hobbies and you can get customizable gifts really made with love and not in a factory. BUT, because Etsy gifts can sometimes be expensive, know that these gifts can also be found in stores and some of them can even be made if you get creative!

For Mom

Let’s face it, Mom needs a break. If you want to save some cash, look into bath bombs of her favorite scents, but if you want to go a little more up-scale, consider a bath table like this one from Bathofeden, so she can really unwind. (She’s raised you after all. Like that was easy).

Sometimes I hear (maybe from my own mouth…) that my parents have everything, so I don’t know what to get them! Well, this is something your mom probably won’t get herself. Buy unique and pretty doorknobs (in her favorite color or multicolored) like these from TrincaFerro and replace the doorknobs in her dresser or in the kitchen and let her wake up on Christmas and be surprised. It’s not a necessity but it’s a sweet little thing to brighten her day and the spaces she lives in every day.

For Dad

Does your dad love big family/neighborhood barbecues? Check out this lawn game from AllAroundWood2 that’ll up the atmosphere at his beloved grill sessions. (Corn hole is a classic but I couldn’t resist the pun on this one!)

Since dads are typically pretty simple creatures, I love this plain, wood phone stand from DrapelaWoodworks where he can keep all of his essentials – plug in the phone, take off the watch, goodnight.

For Your Sister

This cozy mug holder from VinylExpressCo is perfect for both the coffee lover and for your wallet! If you’re crafty (which I am absolutely not) you could probably even make this yourself! She’ll be thinking of you on cold winter mornings when you’re back to your respective schools.

GlitterSips makes super cute ring dishes. You could get one with initials of your sister and your brother-in-law if she’s married, but if not keep it simple with ones like these! It can hold her diamond later ;)

For Your Brother

So this is frankly beyond me, but boys actually get excited about starting to shave and getting nice shaving stuff (I know, I just use conditioner and a rusty razor, too), but whether your brother just hit puberty or is super proud of the beard he’s had for two years now, consider a straight razor or a shaving kit like this one from BumbleandCo.

If you want to get your bro something a little more practical, check out the clocks on Etsy. A lot of them like this one from ErikWoodArt feature TV shows or movies that he loves, and you know he never bothered to get a clock for his room.

For Your Boyfriend

If you’re looking for a lower-budget item, consider giving him a bowtie like this adorable one from 2Marys. This particular one is perfect for music lovers, and it may just remind him to take you somewhere nice so he can wear it!

Guys also love music posters, and who’s more iconic than Kanye (poster from WheniSeeIt)? If you two have any inside jokes about TV shows or movies or music, that’d be perfect for a poster or a print too, and you can find cheap frames in your local GoodWill or maybe your attic?

For Your Best Friend

You can never use too many decorations, whether for her college dorm or her first apartment! This throw pillow from PCBHome gets her, because yes, the struggle is real.

Thinking about getting the ultimate go-to gift for girls – a scarf? Yes, infinity scarves are always safe bets, but maybe mix it up a bit with this patterned shawl from Cleopatravintage. She can use it like a blanket and then convert it into an outfit for when she needs to leave her bed. #goals

For Your #Squad

Having a holiday party or a get-together with your girls? Consider giving out these koozies from dunkirkdesigns to get everyone into the spirit.

Another cheap gift for a group is to get fun socks. You could get these socks from chelseyscardcreation for everyone to wear on wine nights or you could get a unique pair for each girl – there are beer girls, too!

For Your Dog

Now we debatably move into the gifts for the most important person in your life. I absolutely love this custom bedding from Furlap (HA, get it?) and you could even get something funny written on it like,

“Yes, Human?”

And this is a great organizer (from KaysDekor) if your current dog supplies are literally taking over your house. Your pup becomes a permanent and important resident of your apartment, and you get everything organized Pinterest-style.
