Winter break is rapidly approaching, which means it’s the perfect time to pick up a new book (or two)! Hopefully you find time to sit down and read simply for pleasure after all of the required reading, homework, and exams are behind you. We’ve compiled a list of 5 must read books to get you started.

1. Bad Feminist by Roxane Gay is an extremely engaging, current, and empowering book (or rather a collection of essays).

2. The Likeness by Tana French is a murder mystery with fantastic depth and complexity both in the plot and the characters.

3. The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo by Amy Schumer is a surprisingly emotional autobiography, and a must read if you love the comedian.

4. Milk and Honey by Rupi Kaur takes you through the modern female experience in a collection of breathtaking short poems and drawings.

5. Room by Emma Donoghue is a chilling but hopeful novel, and you can watch the movie in addition to reading the book.
