It happens every year during the holiday season; our friends and family cozy up to their significant others, post beautiful photos on Instagram, exchange gifts, and share New Year kisses. For single people, especially us girls, this can definitely take its toll and make us feel lonely rather than joyous during this special time of year. But I’m here to tell you that it is 100% okay to be single during the holidays, and here’s how to have fun doing it!
Bake with your girlfriends! Baking with friends is fun regardless of the season, but getting together with your girls and sharing Christmas cookies and chocolate recipes with the fireplace on while drinking hot cocoa is even better. You’d be surprised how much fun y’all will have decorating desserts and, of course, eating them after!
Secret Santa within your organization or sorority. Getting and giving gifts is one of the best parts of the holidays, but you definitely don’t need a significant other in order to do so. Organize a secret Santa gift exchange within your organization or sorority so you and all of your friends, taken or not, feel and spread the love!
Volunteer. Giving back during the holiday season is key to make not only yourself feel good, but make a significant difference in someone else’s life. Volunteering at soup kitchens or passing out those cookies to neighbors will brighten your spirit and everyone else’s around you.
Spend time with family. Holidays bring families together, especially relatives we haven’t seen for a while. Instead of focusing on your ex, focus on the people who truly love you and spend as much time with them as possible.
Lastly, just remember that with the new year comes new opportunities. Whether you are single by choice or not, and whether you stay that way or not, you’ve got so many great things headed your way.
From all of us here at Her Campus UNT, we wish you and your loved ones happy holidays!
