Shows You Should Binge-Watch Over Break

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Amherst chapter.

Believe it or not, winter break begins next week.  You will be free of deadlines, class readings and required movie screenings.  This is your time to do whatever you want!  After about two weeks, you will realize that doing “whatever you want” is actually quite boring.  If you’re someone like me who doesn’t really watch television, break is the perfect time to catch-up with what the rest of the world is watching.  Here are some of my favorite shows that I’ve been watched or are on my wishlist to binge watch this break.

Insecure

Created by the YouTuber behind “Awkward Black Girl,” “Insecure” is one of HBO’s newest treats.  I watched most of the first season over Thanksgiving Break and I couldn’t stop laughing.  It’s quirky and relateable as it discusses identity, job search, and relationships.  Since the show is on HBO, there is sensitive language that may not be appropriate for all audiences.

Hannibal

This show was cancelled before its time, but it is still one of my favorite tv shows.  Based on the first book of the Hannibal book series, the television show follows Will Graham, a man who gets inside the minds of serial killers.  When he encounters Hannibal, he meets the one mastermind who challenges everything he knows about himself.  The cinematography is phenomenal and the dialogue is superb.  It is quite gruesome, so late night watching is not recommended.

Stranger Things

I have yet to watch this top Netflix show, but it is definitely on my list to watch.  The story’s main characters are children who make a “different” new friend.  This one of the shows on the list where I probably don’t have to sell as much because of its popularity.

A Korean Drama

I first started watching Korean dramas last year to improve my Korean and I found it to be the most entertaining studying mechanism I have ever found.  They often keep you at the edge of your seat and you can’t stop watching them.  I would recommend “Kill Me, Heal Me”, “Stairway to Heaven” or “Descendant of the Suns” for a first time watcher.

Old Favorite Cartoon

Watch the entire series of a favorite childhood tv show.  I watched “6Teen” and “Courage the Cowardly Dog” two breaks ago with my childhood friends and it was like reconnecting with our younger selves.
