5 Reasons You Should Join a Student Club This Semester

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UWindsor chapter.

On January 30th and 31st, student clubs at the University of Windsor will be setting up booths to promote their clubs to potential new members. There are many different clubs to choose from on campus – so many, in fact, that it can be overwhelming looking at all of them. However, student clubs play an important role within the university and within university life. Here is why you should join a student club this semester:

1. To meet people with similar interests

There are so many different clubs out there, you are sure to find one (or more!) that is right for you. Within the club, you will be able to meet people that share your interests whether you are an animal lover, a cheese lover, a dancer, a writer, a reader, or you just want to connect with people who share your culture or academic studies. Great friendships can be formed and, with the right club, your team members can become like family. It is always nice to have people who care for you and are there for you when you need them!

2. It’s a great stress reliever

University is a lot of hard work, but as the saying goes: “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.” The key is to find a balance between the academic and the social, and what better way than a student club! It allows you to take a break from your studies while still being productive.

3. It looks good to get involved

Many university student clubs do some type of philanthropy work. Volunteering within the community with friends can be fun and rewarding. You get a nice study break while giving back to those in need. It’s a win-win! Also, many activities can be put on your Co-Curricular Transcript (especially if you hold a specific position within the student group). Even if it cannot be put on your CCT, it is still a good thing to put on resumes. You learn valuable skills which can help when applying for jobs in the future.

4. Personal growth

You will learn many new things and be able to develop new and partially developed skills! You can learn many things about yourself as well. Maybe you have always wanted to try swing dance or were always interested in writing articles and you wanted an opportunity to see if you enjoy it. Joining a club is your chance to try new things!

5. You will have fun!

Student clubs are formed by students for students. They want you to have fun! And how could you not when you are meeting new people, forming friendships, taking a break from school work, and doing something that you love? Participating in a variety of activities hosted by a student club can make university an unforgettable experience.

Everyone is highly encouraged to check out Clubs’ Week. If you like what you see here, always wanted to write, edit, or publicize for a magazine, or want to be part of a fun, friendly club, check out our HC UWindsor booth at Clubs’ Week!
