Makeup

The new year is always full of new trends and makeup product launches, making it easy to change up your normal routine.

The 60s have definitely started to make a comeback in fashion over the past few months and makeup is starting to follow. This particular technique widens and rounds out your eyes, making them appear bigger and it just looks cool. To get the look you’ll need a lot of practice and a gel or liquid eyeliner. Some good brands that stay all day include Tarte’s Tarteist liner, Maybelline tattoo liner, and Stila Stay All Day liquid liner.

Holographic Makeup

The trend of duochrome pigments has taken the makeup world by storm. For those who don’t know, duochrome means that the pigment appears to shift colors when seen at different angles and in different lights and is almost holographic. Many makeup brands have made palettes with duochrome eyeshadows and even highlighters and face powders. Playing with duochrome is one of the easiest and fastest ways to really change up your look and add some interest.

Glitter Roots

If you’re looking for a really fun and easy-to-do hairstyle, try adding glitter to your roots. The best way is to mix loose glitter with hair gel and then brush it through your hair, starting at the roots. This trick will turn normal buns into the most far-out space buns at the function. You’ll definitely stand out even if it’s a pain to wash out later.

Books

The new year is always a time of seeking inspiration, and a good book can do just that.

The Collected Poems

College can be very busy and having free time to read anything other than a textbook is almost unheard of. Reading poems is a lot easier to fit into a busy schedule than a typical novel and can be just as, if not, more powerful. I recommend Rupi Kaur and Sylvia Plath to anyone looking to start reading poetry since they are succinct, inspiring, and rooted in feminist beliefs.

Music

A lot of artists are planning releases to new singles and albums this new year.

After a year-long hiatus, Ed Sheeran released two new singles this January and revealed the release of a new full-length album called Divide, expected to come in March. What is now available continues to show his versatility as an artist and definitely bodes well for the new album. You’ll have the songs on repeat for the next 2 months.

The xx announced that they are releasing their third studio album, I See You, this January. A single off of the album has been shared and is typical of the alt-indie songwriters and is full of beautiful and soothing sounds that are perfect for studying.

Essential Oils

Diffusing essential oils can help you maintain a more balanced lifestyle, with certain scents known to decrease stress or anxiety and some that promote positivity and purification. You can get concentrated bottles that are either single scents or certain combinations geared toward certain purposes like sleep or calmness. It is also a much healthier means of diffusing a scent than having an artificial plug-in or air freshener.
