17 New Years Resolutions

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at CWU chapter.

It’s never too late to decide your New Year’s resolution, and honestly it’s tough to decide what the primary focus of the new year, new you, should be! We at Her Campus CWU had the same problem. So we sat down and brain stormed and are happy to help you out with some resolution inspiration with 17 of our very own!

1. Stop Drinking Coffee

It’s bad for your teeth but so good for the soul! By kicking this habit we are going to save a ton of money as well as reduce the risk of a stomach ulcer or two.

2. Save Money

This seems vague and obvious but hear us out; there are so many ways to save money (see previous resolution). What we are actually trying to execute is putting money away. Saving a little at a time makes a big difference and 2017 is going to be financially in our favor.

3. Have More Genuine Relationships With People

Going out of our way to reach out to people when we think about them or making connections we haven’t made the effort to make will go along way with anyone. Especially since we are all in college and entering the same fields, the more people you know can get you far.

4. Meet More People In My Major

Kind of goes a long with #3, meeting people in your major is definitely a good resource for study help, academic and professional advice. What we’re saying is, it definitely would not hurt.

5. Eat More Greens

We’re so busy that its so easy to grab a burger or pizza if we are actually going to make an effort to eat all. Even small steps as little as substituting fries with a salad or going for the green smoothie instead of strawberry and sugar option, can benefit you and your mood!

6. Live More Presently

Absorbing every moment and living in the now is much more satisfying the constantly stressing about all of the things you have to do later that day or even later in the year. Planning ahead is important but appreciating the present is fulfilling.

7. Use My Cell Phone Less and Connect More

This is more literal example of #8. Spending so much time in our bubble of social media and Imessages can be taxing and you really do miss a lot. It’s a great idea to step away from your phone, enjoy your food instead of posting it on your story and appreciate what you’re doing rather than what your followers are up to.

8. Appreciate Yourself More

A little self appreciation never hurt anyone! Focus more on those goals and the beautiful things that make you, you!

9. Focus on Positive More Than The Negatives in Life

When dealing with any situation it’s a lot easier to point out what’s wrong and why you’re made rather than why you should be happy. Happy girls are the prettiest, so face every problem with optimism and count every reason to smile.

10. Eat Less Chips

Probably the most challenging and self explanatory resolution on this list.

11. Only Surround Yourself With Those Who Uplift and Inspire you

Cut those Negative Nancy’s out of your life like you cut your own bangs in 3rd grade.

12. Say No To Things That Don’t Benefit You

Take advantage of the opportunities that are going to build you up and don’t let the haters bring you down.

13. Be More Proactive

Write down a goal and make. It. Happen, girl. *cue clapping emoji*

14. Live More Intentionally

Doing things with purpose can only benefit you. We are done with doing the bare minimum, a strong work ethic and personal growth in your passion will get you the most out of anything!

15. Read a Book on a New Topic Every Month

We always say it but we never do it. Reading about something new and interesting expands your vocabulary and make you more knowledgeable.Plus, starring at book pages is a lot better for your eyes than Twitter pages.

16. Try A New Workout Every Month

January is for Barre class and February can be for Boxing. Get out there and find out what you’re good at or really, really bad at. You’ll break a sweat either way.

17. Try To Stay Off of Social Media

Social Media isn’t all bad, it can actually be enriching from time to time. But constantly engaging in conversations and comparing yourself to people who don’t even look like themselves is a waste of valuable time you can spend not eating chips and reading a book. So go do both of those things and you’re on your way to a better 2017!
