We are in that prime time where our New Year’s Resolutions may slowly start to seem more and more like they won’t be accomplished this year. But never fear! Here are some ways you can hold on to those resolutions for a few months longer.

1. Don’t make excuses for yourself-

This is one of the easiest traps to fall into because we rationalize why we aren’t doing something, and therefore nothing seems wrong with it. The easiest way to avoid this is by making your resolution a set thing in your schedule that you have to do, such as a class or meeting.

2. Set reminders for yourself –

A common excuse people have for not completing goals is forgetting to work on them because of a long day at work or school. If you set a phone reminder or even just a daily sticky note, it will help you greatly.

3.  Be specific-

This is when it comes to setting small and big goals. Say your goal is to drink more water. Instead of saying “Today I’m going to drink more water,” say “Today I’m going to drink five bottles of water.” This makes your goals seem more realistic and there is more of a chance you will actually do them.

4. Be time consistent-

Goal completion comes more naturally when turned into a habit. Completing a goal at the same time every day will help it naturally become a part of your routine, and it won’t feel like something you have to do, but something you do normally.

5. Celebrate your progress-

Even if it may be small, celebrate the little victories. You will feel better about yourself and want to keep doing it.

6. Don’t beat yourself up if you get off track-

Resolutions are hard, so have patience with yourself. It is easy to get frustrated if you slip up, but the most important thing to remember is there is still time and that you can always start fresh tomorrow.
