Ways to Bring You Up When You’re Feeling Down

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Suffolk chapter.

Sometimes, it’s just “one of those days.” We all have them; sometimes we know why and sometimes we don’t. Either way, when you’re feeling down, it’s no fun, so here are a few (out of many) ways to bring yourself up, when you’re feeling down:

1. Self reflect on the good things in your life.

“I have an amazing family”

“I’m getting a great college education”

“I live in Boston”

“I have a cat”

What ever it may be, focus on the good.

2. Take a nap.

Because sometimes you just need to regenerate and naps are always a good idea.

3. Watch a funny movie to laugh, or a sad movie to cry.

Letting emotion out can help release any stress or anxiety built up inside of you and hopefully make you feel better.

4. Eat one (or more) of your favorite foods.

Food always makes people happy, so no matter what it is… Three bagels at 9PM; a few dark chocolate bars; a pint of Ben & Jerry’s; do it because you deserve it and it will make you feel better.

5. Work out.

Yes, working out sucks most of the time, but when you’re down it will get you up out of bed and after the work out you will feel great! Just put on some of your favorite, jam out and work up a sweat. Then you get to take a nice hot shower and feel accomplished, fit, relaxed and clean!

6. Call someone that you can talk to.

When I’m feeling down I usually call my mom. For some people it’s better to reach out to those who you know are there to help rather than keeping everything in to yourself. Sometimes just talking on the phone about anything can take your mind off of feeling down and lift up your spirit so that you don’t feel alone.

7. Last but not least, ask for a hug.

Because there are so many people around you who love you and a hug never does anyone wrong.
