The Demise of Club Penguin

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at PS Berks chapter.

Club Penguin’s last day in service will be on March 29th.

Club Penguin was founded in 2005. It is a website that allows kids to play games and earn coins to buy items for their penguin. In 2007, it was bought by Disney.

It was started as a place for safe place for tweens to interact with each other before they visited chatrooms or social media. Kids could talk to each other either by clicking pre-chosen messages or by typing responses.

The site will be replaced by Club Penguin Island, which will be an app. Users can pre-register until February 15th.

In 2013, the site saw 200 million users in a year. In 2016, there was only 5.6 million users.
