10 facts about Richard from Jasmines

You know him, you love him, you visit him at least once a week. But how much do you really know the man behind the hole-in-the-wall sushi joint accross FIU? Jasmine’s Sushi and Thai has been the place to be for students at FIU since anyone can really remember. From the delicious sushi to the daily specials on sake bombs, afternoons at jasmines have become part of the average panther experience.

  1. Richard’s birth name was actually Aung Hien Win but had to be changed when he came over to the US.
  2. Richard is not from Thailand or Japan, he is actually from a country called Myanmar (Burma).
  3. Richard and his wife, Theingi, whom he met on a trip to his home country have four kids together.
  4. Richard’s birthday is on March 12th and he is a Pisces.
  5. Before moving to Florida in the year 2000, Richard lived California and worked in a manufacturing company.
  6. Richard’s favorite things to eat and drink at Jasmines are the Nama Saka and the fried rice.
  7. When asked which fraternity he would join if he was a student at FIU he responded, “I don’t know any of them really but all I hear is Sammy, Sammy, Sammy.” Which is no surprise since his son, Kyle, is a brother of Sigma Alpha Mu.
  8. When Richard was in high school he was first in his district for tennis and went on to place third over-all in college. Unfortunately, he had to stop playing due to torn tendon on his wrist.
  9. Richard says that his favorite time at Jasmine’s is every year on his birthday. He invites people to come celebrate with him, giving out free drinks and food for everyone to enjoy!
  10. Richard’s favorite thing about working at Jasmine’s is the students. “It fun to watch how they transform from freshmen to senior year, they are like my family,” he says.
