How to Get Physical at SLU

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at St. Law U chapter.

Trying to get physical at SLU? Check out this list of different ways get physical on and around our very own campus!

  1. When the snow starts to melt, and it’s warm again, rent a canoe at the canoe shed. Don’t know where that is? Head past the intramural fields, walk left down the trail off the road, and look for a Red Barn! The canoe shack is a great resource we have on campus and it’s always fun to take a canoe and travel down the river with some friends on a nice day.

  1. Check out the Munro climbing wall in the fitness center and have a friendly rock climbing competition with some friends. The Munro climbing wall is open Mondays and Thursdays from 4-10pm and on Sundays from 4-8. Climbers of all levels are welcome!

  2. While you’re at Augsbury, check out “Open Swim” in the pool. Grab your one piece and goggles and swim some laps, or invite some friends to play water games in the deep end. If you’re not the best at swimming, have no fear! Certified lifeguards are always on duty during open swim!

  3. Post-swim or climb, you can also check out the sauna which is located downstairs in the fitness center. This is a great place to get a good sweat during the cold winter months. The sauna helps to flush out bad toxins, and can also strengthen your immune system. What’s even better is that it’s a great place to talk to some friends or meet new people.

  4. Rent a bike from the Science Library and explore the trails around campus or head uptown to Canton mainstreet. You can ride the pathway down the Avenue of the Elms, ride around the golf cart paths, or even go far enough to reach the SLU barn.

  5. Grab your clubs and hit up the St. Lawrence Golf Course. The first hole is located right behind the Best Western and you can rent a cart in the main office. For more info regarding Tee Times and prices, check out the website: http://stlawrencegolfclub.com

If you’re really feeling outdoorsy, check out the NOCO area by hiking some trails or skiing the slopes. Also, always make sure to check if our friendly neighborhood Outing Club is leading any trips that day! For more information, make sure to get on the Outing Club listser, by emailing @OUTINGCLUB-L@LISTSERV.STLAWU.EDU.
