Josh is one of the first people I met at Saint Michael’s. We somehow ended up in the same group for advising and we were fast friends. Josh is one of the funniest, caring people I know. He always has your back and is an amazing leader in the SMC community. He is well known as an inspiring orientation leader as well.  If you haven’t met him yet, I highly advise that you do.  HerCampus was lucky enough to sit down with Josh to hear about his experience.

HC: Why did you pick SMC?

JA: I fell in love with SMC the second I first stepped on campus. I loved the community aspect and how everyone was so unbelievably welcoming. I am very happy that I made the decision to come here!

HC: Why did you get involved with Orientation?

JA: I got involved with orientation because I wanted to welcome in the new students just like the orientation leaders did for me when I was a first year. I want to be able to spread all of the love that St. Mike’s has to offer with everyone who comes here.

HC: What is your favorite orientation memory?

JA:  When all of the orientation leaders stand in a line (known as you are not alone) and share very personal experiences in front of the entire incoming class. This allows the first year students to feel comfortable with everything and allows them to connect to their leaders on a  more personal level.

HC: Why should people apply to be an orientation leader?

JA: People should apply to be an orientation leader because it is the bet job on campus. Every single thing you do as an orientation leader is something that you will take with you for the rest of your life. It’s all about spreading love and happiness and creating memories.

HC: What is the greatest lesson you learned from orientation?

JA: I learned to respect everyone’s differences even more than I did before. Everyone comes into college with a different background story, and it is important that orientation leaders are there to listen and give advice whenever it is needed.

HC: What advice do you have for incoming freshman?

JA: DO NOT SKIP ANY ORIENTATION EVENTS BECAUSE YOU WILL REGRET IT. THIS WILL BE THE ONLY TIME WHERE YOU GET TO REALLY KNOW ST. MIKES, SO DON’T TAKE IT FOR GRANTED.
