All the Ways We’re Wasting Our Youth

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Queen's U chapter.

Do you ever realize how young and beautiful you are right now? This may well be the youngest and most beautiful you’ll ever be! This is the point in your life that you’ll most wish you could go back to. And you just might be wasting your youthful beauty. Here’s how:

1. You’re way too focused on school.

What good is being young and beautiful if all you do is study?

2. You spend too much time on the Internet.

Looking at other people and wondering why you aren’t as young and beautiful as them (hint, you are).

3. You don’t take care of yourself.

Is sacrificing your sleep and a healthy diet so you can make it to your 9 AM class on time really worth it?

4. You care too much about the future.

The future, a time when you won’t be as young and beautiful as you are now. But by the time it comes along, you’ll just be wishing you spent less time worrying and more time enjoying.

5. You follow the “rules.”

We condition ourselves to follow a set of rules that we believe are the right things to do, even if they aren’t what make us happy. Turns out, the right thing to do is to enjoy life. So forget your rules and just live.

They say youth is wasted on the young. A generation of degenerates. But it doesn’t have to be like that. I’m not saying we should skip all of our sleep-compromising classes, live with no consideration for the future, or even drop out of school entirely. That stuff is important for your ultimate happiness too. But you have to remember to be happy today as well. Because today, you are young and beautiful and free.

Tomorrow you won’t be as young.
