HC Profile: Rebecca Leigh Armstrong Fleming

Name: Rebecca Leigh Armstrong Fleming

Age: 20

Studying: Language and Linguistics

Year: 2

This week, I had a great time catching up with fellow Her Campus member, Rebecca Leigh Armstrong Fleming, and getting the chance to get to know her a little better:

HC: What made you decide to study linguistics?

R: Okay right, well I’ve always loved studying English and when I moved schools for sixth form my A Levels were English Literature, English Language and Religious Studies. I knew I wanted to go to University but never really knew what I wanted to do and I was fortunate enough to have an amazing English language teacher who saw I really enjoyed the subject and gave me advice, notes and books to read on linguistics.

HC: What are 5 words you would use to describe yourself?

R: Bookworm, realist, coffee-lover, funny and binge-watcher

HC: Coffee-lover, of course! What is your dream job and where do you aim to be in 5 years?

R: To work as a forensic linguist, which is: Forensic linguistics, legal linguistics (which is language and law and the application of linguistic knowledge), methods and insights to the forensic context of law, language, crime investigation, trial, and judicial procedure. It is a branch of applied linguistics. Oh man, well I’ll be 25, which is crazy to think about! I can already tell this is going to be a boring answer. But I just hope I’m happy in my life with a job I enjoy. Hopefully, I’ve travelled more and I would love to think I’ll have a dog; that’s the real goal.

HC: Since it’s one of our favourite foods, what is your favourite kind of pizza?

R: Easy. Tuna and green pepper pizza. I can only get it back home, I’ve never found it anywhere else. I introduced my friend Anna from Boston to it and she thought it would be horrible but she craves it as much as I do now!

HC: Sounds…interesting! I’ll maybe just take your word on that one haha… Finally, how would you describe your perfect date?

R: Okay okay, I don’t think I’ve ever thought about a perfect date before. But, I would love to have dinner in a restaurant, with a nice bottle of red wine, then go home with a good movie ready to watch; preferably an action/adventure one.

Thanks Rebecca! I had a great time learning a bit more about you!
