How to Become a Better Person During Lent this Year

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Providence chapter.

Spring is right around the corner here in Friartown, which means a couple of exciting things are coming up. Darty season is approaching, classes are being held outside, and Lent and Easter are on their way! If you’re thinking of participating in Lent in preparation for Easter, here’s a list of easy and semi-realistic things you can give up, or even take up, for 46 days. Regardless of how religious you are, Lent is a great way to change up your routine and pick up some healthy habits.

What to give up:

1. Ice Cream Bar at Ray

The rainbow sprinkles and Oreo crumbs are tempting, I know

2. Yuck Truck

A Hot Chick has sadly been the highlight of my night some weekends

3. Taking the elevator when it’s unnecessary

Fine, if you live on seventh floor McVinney you can take the elevator but if you’re on third floor, c’mon

4. Getting fries as your side every time you get take 3

Fries are the perfect complement to a chicken patty in Alumni, but maybe try and apple or granola bar instead

What to take up:

1. Actually going to the gym

This is the perfect way to procrastinate that civ essay

2. Finish a book

Whether you re-read a childhood favorite or pick up a saucy novel turned into a movie, try reading for fun

3. Journal

Put your ideas, thoughts, and feelings down on paper and express yourself

4. Go to more BOP events

            There’s usually free food! #winning

5. Talk to the fam back home more often

Catch them up on Ed Cooley, Dot and Fran, and Father Shanley
