The Challenging Debate of Starbucks vs. Dunkin Donut

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Binghamton chapter.

When I wake up in the morning, it is always a tough call choosing to stop at Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts.  Lucky for us Binghamton students, we have both a Starbucks and a Dunkin Donuts located very close to campus. Both of these coffee place even have drive through windows. Making this tough decision can certainly be quite the challenge.

Regular hot and iced coffee – I defintley would have to say Dunkin wins my vote in terms of hot and iced coffee. Starbucks is good if you like strong coffee, but if you want a lighter blend of coffee, then I defintley recommend Dunkin Donuts. However, Starbucks does have a variety of roasts of coffee.

Sweet drinks – Starbucks defintley takes the price in this area. From Frappuccinos to a caramel macchiato, Starbucks defintley offers many more choice in terms of specialty drinks. Also, Starbucks tends to make drinks that are seasonal, which many people really enjoy.

Hot Chocolate – After asking a few of my friends which coffee shop has better hot chocolate, everyone seemed to agree that Dunkin Donuts has the better drink. Starbucks’s hot chocolate is sometimes too bitter, while Dunkin Donuts is creamy and delicious.

Pastries – Of course Dunkin Donuts has amazing donuts and tons of fun flavors to choose from. Who does not love a good old-fashioned box of Munchkins? However, I do love Starbuck’s croissants and scones.  Dunkin Donuts also has better and more bagel options.

Experience – I sometimes just want plain coffee and so, I stop at Dunkin Donuts. But if I am meeting up with a friend, I would 100 percent choose Starbucks for its experience. Starbucks has very comfortable seating and generally has better customer service, making it a much more fulfilling experience.  I also sometimes go to Starbucks to do homework, since they all have free and fast Wi-Fi, as well as having plenty of outlets to charge all of your devices.
