Don’t judge me based on who I voted for. Don’t judge me because I’m a female. Don’t judge me because you don’t know me. Don’t judge me period.

Ever since the election and even before, people have been on edge because they feel that they are going to be protected from all that has been going on. There has been a lot of vandalism, hate crimes, and so much more going around the country, even here at Manhattanville. The crimes that have occurred on campus have affected many different groups of people. Will it ever end? Do we all not understand that we were all raised better by our parents, family, and friends?

Recently at my job we have a had a lot of people reference the election as some sort of reasoning for why we are saying we cannot do what they are asking for. Do we really have to stoop to the level where must say “Yeah, whatever Hillary supporter”? Does is it matter who we voted for? We all voted based on our beliefs and who had the best interest for what we believe in. We need to start respecting people for who they are. Do not throw low balls, because at the end of the day is it useless and childish. Why does it matter if I voted for Hillary or Trump? We are all going through the aftermath of the election, we need to stop and think a little more wisely when it comes to talking to people. Watch what you say before you say it because you do not know how the person you are talking to is going to react to what you are saying.

In high school, I had a principal who always said that we should think about what we were doing as if our mother were standing right next to us. This followed me through college, and I think about it every day. Obviously, there are things that we would not want our parents seeing or doing because they would not approve of this behavior. To those who are vandalizing our campus, think about that before you continue ruining the beauty on our campus. Do you think that your parents would appreciate what you’re doing to the Manhattanville community? We are all scared, hurt, and confused. All I ask is, if you are reading this, please stop. Put the community before yourself, or please go to reach out for help from someone.
